Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas in the sacred and picturesque valley of River Ganga is Uttarkashi, a Himalayan town and ancient pilgrimage centre, at an altitude of 1158m above sea level. This town has been been renowned as a place for spiritual practise and contemplation since millennia.  Sivananda Ashram in Ujaili , Uttarkashi was founded in 1962 four  years after H.H.Swami Chaitanyanandaji Maharaj came here for tapasya, with the blessings of H.H.Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj.

Since over forty years, this tranquil ashram has been a centre for spiritual practise, study  and contemplation. H.H.Swami Chaitanyanandaji Maharaj attained Mahasamadhi as a Jivanmukta in August 2003. A block of rooms called the Bhakta Nivas has been constructed to enable serious sadhakas to visit the Ashram  and pursue their sadhana. There is a daily vedanta discourse on Bhagavad Gita and other vedantic texts with Shankara Bhashya and an evening satsang with bhajans is conducted in the prayer hall in the Ashram.

While the primary focus has been spiritual practise by the individual members and residents of the ashram; on a modest scale, a  Vedic study centre and charitable school are being supported by the Ashram.

Some of Swami Chaitanyanandaji Maharaj’s  books and MP3 CDs containing discourses on the Upanishads, are also available in the Ashram. For details please contact : swamigambhirananda@gmail.com
